Difference between IP PBX system and softswitch
The marvels of modern world are enough to dumbfound anyone. There are so many technologies that have evolved in recent years to make life easier for people. When it comes to communication, you can find a great deal of improvement in all sorts of technologies.
The establishment of several companies offering call center services is a clear indictor that more and more people are now concerned about making communication system more efficient. But, there are several new technologies which has hit this world in recent years. Two such technologies are known as IP PBX system and softswitches.
Though one can say that softswitches and IP PBX systems are one and the same thing but they are not. However, softswtiches can be considered IP PBX systems but you can not treat IP PBX systems as softswitches, at least not always.
Speaking of IP PBX system, you can find them supporting only the VoIP communication to the PSTN or the handset. On the other hand, softswitch is a PBX that can perform different functions like call handling, voicemail, etc. But, these functions are actually derived from the software. Here, hardware is used only for the basic connectivity to the handset.
So, the basic difference between the both technologies is the hardware and software dependency. IP PBX depends on hardware whereas softswtiches depend on software. But, it is a fact that both of the technologies are helping people in an outstanding way, especially the IP PBX systems which are fast becoming popular.
