A comparative study of ecological building, Green building and sustainable architecture

The concept of ecological building is not like the Green building or sustainable architecture.  While the end objective is identical, there is also a basic difference.  The aims of green building is to minimize the negative impacts that are generated by buildings whereas the aim of the ecological building is a positive one that tries to increase the efficiency of the building and elements used in it by generating a beneficial interaction. In the process they may use the process of converting a Garten into a miniature forest or may try to enhance the use of local materials in construction of the Fertighaus.

The principles underlying Green building is that human interaction with buildings always put some negative impact. Whereas in ecological building the interaction is considered to be a factor that could be given a positive turn and therefore beneficial in the end and thus play a vital role in the improvement of the ecological balancing.   There are a number of well written essays on this topic that could be available in the Artikelverzeichnis that you could access either on the nets or from popular magazines.

Sustainable architecture on the other hand applies to the process of existence and maintenance. The term is often considered as synonymous with the Green building.  They refer to a building that is constructed with the aim of improved environmental designs though such designs may not yield the desired result in practice. For example, they may include a Naturkost in the building design aiming to neutralize harmful emissions but the end result may not be to their liking.
